Abstract

1,044,079. Conveyers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 8, 1964 [July 11, 1963], No. 28158/64. Heading B8A. [Also in Division H1] The tubes are fed from a shoot 5, via a wheel 9 to a set of jaws 23, 27 on a revolving turret, the jaws 23 being fixed and the jaws 27 being opened to receive the tube by a cam 19 acting through a system of levers against the action of a spring 47. The stem mounts are carried by two sets of jaws 55A, 55B and 57A, 57B (not shown), carried by endless chains, the jaws meshing with one another and with a toothed quadrant 83 operated by a cam track 95 acting on a cam-follower 89 against the action of a spring 97. The burner comprises concentric sleeves enclosing an inner sleeve spaced from a thrust ring at the end of the burner tube by a spacer so that an annular slot which has conical walls is formed at the opposite end and produces a conical flame which impinges on the flange of the stem mount. A sheath inside the sleeve shields the stem and supply leads. The burner is moved longitudinally during its travel so that it first embraces the stem, the jaws 55A, 55B and 57A, 57B successively opening, and then carries this into contact with the end of the tube, sealing of the stem to the tube then taking place.
