Abstract

1,043,251. Pressure doors. ANDREW ENGINEERING & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. May 11, 1964 [Feb. 9, 1963], No. 5356/63. Heading F2P. [Also in Division B1] A sliding sealing door for a pressure vessel has manually releasable clamping means and releasable detent means rendering the releasing means for the clamping means inoperative until the pressure in the vessel has been reduced to a predetermined extent. A pressure vessel 1 has a door opening 2, a seal 3 projecting from the periphery of the door, and a slidable door 4 having clamping bolts 5 at spaced locations along one side edge and clamping bolts 6 spaced along the other side edge, the bolts 5 co-operating with U-shaped pressure pads 7. The bolts are turned by chains 12 connected via sprocketwheels to a manually operated capstan wheel 20. Fastened to the door 4 is a cylinder 21d in communication with the interior of the pressure vessel and containing a piston 21f to which is attached a stem 21h having a pawl 21k at one end. The pawl engages teeth on a plate attached. to a gear-wheel 18 connected to the capstan wheel. The piston is spring loaded to maintain the pawl away from the teeth but when the pressure in the vessel is sufficient to overcome the force applied by the spring the pawl acts to lock the gear-wheel 18 to prevent opening of the clamps. A ratchet means on the plate 22 allows the clamps to be tightened while preventing them from being released.
