A packaging tray formed of high-impact polystyrene and with a flat rim has a coating of adhesive applied in solution form to enable a sealing membrane of polymeric sheet to be heat sealed to it. This operation may be performed by clamping the rim and superposed membrane between opposed platens or running them between a pair of heated rollers.
