Abstract

1319232 Laminates P J V LUC 3 June 1970 [3 March 1969] 11315/69 Headings B5K and B5N A process for bonding at least two materials contained in an assembly of materials, at least one of the materials being a heat-sensitive plastics web, comprises bringing to bear upon at least one external surface of the assembly, for a time not in excess of 1 second, temperatures exceeding the melting point of the plastics web by at least 50‹ C. The assembly may also be subjected to the action of a frictional element, e.g. a wheel, which may be heated. The examples describe (1) the continuous line sealing of two layers of biaxially oriented polypropylene using a heated wheel, (2) the intermittent sealing of a biaxially oriented polyolefin film overwrap to a carton using a die, (3) the lamination of kraft paper and polyethylene using rollers, (4) the lamination of oriented polyethylene terephthalate to aluminium foil using rollers, and (5) the continuous line sealing of two layers of polyethylene using a wheel and a heated roller.
