Heading B5N. <SP>/</SP> " A structural element comprises rigid external layers 10a, 10b and alternate flexible 12a, 12b and rigid 11 internal layers, the layers being connected together by flexible ligatures 14, such as chains, textile threads, spun glass threads, plastics threads or looped wire rods, the connecting elements passing through the layers and being anchored in the rigid layers 10a, 10b, 11. The rigid layers 10a, 10b, 11 may be plaster or cement and may be reinforced with steel rod, grid or mesh and the flexible layers may be glass wool or foamed plastics material such as polystyrene, polyurethane or polyesters. Loose fabric layers 13a, 13b of jute, textile fabric, wire or spun glass may be interposed between the outer layers 10a, 10b and the flexible layers 12a, 12b. The connecting elements 14 may extend across all the layers as shown in Fig. 1, or separate elements may be used to connect adjacent pairs of rigid layers 10a, 11 and 11. 10b (Fig. 3, not shown).
