Abstract
1,042,615. Cupola furnaces. O.SCHNYDER Sept. 24, 1963, No. 37533/63. Heading F4B. In a hot blast cupola, metal inner casing 1 near the smelting zone is provided with a plurality of inner air heating ducts 2 extending between annular headers 8 and 9 and is spaced from an outer water-cooled annular metal jacket 3. The blast heated in ducts 2 is diverted by a two-way valve 4 either to the stack 7 or into the furnace through nozzles 5. The blast may be preheated before or after it flows through the casing 1, for instance in a recuperator or in a heater above the smelting zone comprising two spaced concentric metal cylinders 13 and 17, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). Otherwise this upper zone may be cooled independently by a subsidiary blower. Heat transmission in the space 14 between the inner and outer casings may be influenced by treatment of the emitting and absorbing surfaces, evacuation of said space, provision of conduction ribs, or a supplementary air supply.
