Abstract
The invention comprises the pharmaceutically acceptable salts of N-dithiocarboxy-taurine and N,N1 - bis(dithiocarboxy) - ornithine. In examples the disodium salt of N-dithiocarboxy-taurine is prepared by mixing taurine with sodium hydroxide and adding carbon disulphide thereto, and the trisodium salt of L-N,N1-bis (dithiocarboxy)-ornithine is prepared by adding carbon disulphide to a mixture of L-ornithine and sodium hydroxide.ALSO:The invention comprises a composition for the prevention or treatment of liver disease and ammonia or heavy metal intoxication comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of a N-dithiocarboxyamino acid and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The pharmaceutically acceptable salts may be the alkali or alkaline earth metal salts of N-dithiocarboxy-taurine, N-dithiocarboxy-aspartic acid, N-dithiocarboxy-methionine, N-dithiocarboxy-glycine, N-dithiocarboxy-asparagine, N,N1-bis(dithiocarboxy) lysine and N,N1-bis(dithiocarboxy)-ornithine. The composition may additionally contain other active ingredients e.g. methionine, aspartic acid, 2, 3-di-mercapto-1-propanol and choline.
