Abstract

In a modification of Specification 969,552 vinyl chloride is copolymerized with vinyl acetate at a temperature of 0 DEG C. or below using a catalyst comprising an organic peroxide and a trialkylboron complexed with hydrazine, said complex having the general formula R3B: NH2-NH2, where R is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. A solvent such as methanol or acetone may be present during the copolymerization. Chain terminators, e.g. an aldehyde or a chlorinated solvent, and plasticizers such as phthalates may be present. In the examples the catalyst comprises triethyl-boron-hydrazine and monochloracetyl peroxide.
