Abstract

Vinyl acetate is produced by contacting acetaldehyde with acetic anhydride at a temperature between 30 DEG and 140 DEG C. in the presence of a catalyst which comprises a mixture of palladium chloride and a chloride and/or an acetate of a metal of Group I or II of the Periodic Table, particularly sodium, lithium or cupric acetate or lithium chloride.
