Abstract

1,041,802. Heating stoves. E. H. W. BERG. April 10, 1964, No. 15000/64. Heading F4S. An air heater comprises a rectangular boxform heat-exchanger 5 having finned external surfaces and an apertured bottom 17 through which combustion gases from a gas or liquid fuel burner 9 can flow into the interior of the box and through to a chimney outlet 22 at the top of the box, an enclosure surrounding the box receives a forced cool air draft which is heated and then emitted through an outlet 25. The heat exchanger box comprises five finned plates and the bottom plate 17, Fig. 3 (not shown), all being clamped together in a manner permitting thermal expansion and contraction. At least one internally finned tube 18 of trapezoidal cross-section may pass through the box to provide additional heating surfaces and house one or more air deflectors 19. A secondary heatexchanger 20 in the chimney may house transverse tubes 21 through which the forced air draft flows, this draft being generated by a blower 3a, Fig. 2 (not shown), driven by motor 3, and being guided to the heat exchanger by baffles 23 and 24. A thermostat bi-metallic strip 12 is placed adjacent the heat-exchanger below baffle 12 in the path of the forced draft. If overheated the thermostat will open a circuit between a thermocouple 10a and an electromagnetic valve 11 and the valve will be de-energized to cut off the supply of gas to the burners 9.
