Abstract

The invention comprises novel pyridine derivatives of general formulaeae <FORM:1040900/C2/1> wherein A represents a carbonyl group and R represents a phenyl group which is substituted by a fluorine atom or a lower alkoxy group or represents a C3-C8 cycloalkyl or 5- or 6-membered heteromonocyclic group in which the heteroatoms are nitrogen, oxygen and/or sulphur, and acid addition salts thereof prepared by reacting a [pyridyl-(4)-methyl]-(alkali metal) derivative with a carbonyl compound of formula <FORM:1040900/C2/2> wherein R has the significance above and R1 stands for a halogen atom or a lower-alkoxy, phenoxy or benzyloxy group, and if desired converting the reaction product into an acid addition salt. Pharmaceutical compositions having anticonvulsant and hypothermia reducing activity can be administered enterally or parenterally in the form of tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, or in liquid form as solutions, suspensions, or emulsions, contain a compound of the first general formula above as the active ingredient.
