Abstract

1308832 Pyridazines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 June 1971 [27 July 1970 1 March 1971] 36201/70 and 5664/71 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1,2</SP> = C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-3 alkoxy substituted C 2-3 alkyl, or NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> = 5-7 membered ring optionally containing an O atom or being C 1-4 alkoxy substituted; R<SP>3,4</SP> = C 1-6 alkyl (not both methyl) or C 1-6 alkoxy substituted C 2-6 alkyl) and their acid addition salts are prepared by (a) reacting a compound of the formula (X = halogen or R<SP>3</SP>O; Y = halogen) with R<SP>4</SP>OM (M = alkali metal), (b) reacting a compound of the formula with R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>NH or (c) reacting a compound of the formula with (R<SP>4</SP>) 3 O.BF 4 , optionally followed in each case by salt formation. The preparation of pyridazine starting materials for each of the above processes and of 3,6 - dihydroxy - 4 - morpholinopyridazine is described. The above compounds are general anaesthetics and sedatives, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical or veterinary preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
