Abstract

An adhesive tape comprises a carrier for the adhesive material which includes a foil of synthetic plastics material to one side of which is secured a fabric comprising filaments of synthetic plastics material. The fabric may comprise warp filaments of synthetic plastics material woven with weft filaments of synthetic plastics material. The warp and weft filaments may be of the same material. The warp filament may extend in the direction of the length of the tape. The adhesive may be a self-adhesive material, a pressure sensitive cold adhesive based on natural rubber. The fabric may just cover the foil. The foil may be of polyvinyl chloride e.g. a hard or soft polyvinyl chloride. The filaments may be of terephthalic acid polyester fibres. The foil and the fabric may have been secured together with polyacrylic ester dissolved in ethyl acetate. The foil may have a thickness of approximately 0.04 to 0.05 mm. The filaments may be in the form of flat strips and the fabric which they form may also be flat. The adhesive may be applied to the foil or fabric. The expression "synthetic plastics material" does not include rayon or cellulose acetate.
