Abstract

1,040,805. Starting two-stroke cycle engines. HITACHI Ltd. April 29, 1964 [May 11, 1963], No. 17841/64. Headings FIB and F1K. A non-return valve 1, Fig. 2a, in the exhaust pipe leading to an exhaust driven turbocharger permits the turbine to be driven by air compressed in the engine cylinder during starting. The exhaust valve 3 is held open by a decompression cam 2, while the engine is turned over for starting, until the turbocharger has attained sufficient speed. In an engine with pistoncontrolled inlet and exhaust ports, a decompression valve 3<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2b (not shown) is provided and a passage 10 leads air compressed in the cylinder to the exhaust pipe upstream of the non-return valve 1<SP>1</SP>.
