Abstract

Plant for composting organic material comprises a vertical fermentation tower, a radial toothed screw conveyer adapted to sweep the base of the tower and discharge material therefrom, and means for recycling material from the screw conveyer to the charging device. According to Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), a tower 10 is divided radially into cells 11 and a single screw conveyer 5 is adapted to sweep, with a to-and-fro motion, the base of any cell. The discharged material is recycled via belt conveyers 6 and 7, bucket conveyer 2, belt conveyer 3, and single slewing spout 4. The slewing spout, which is adapted to charge material to any cell, may be replaced by a slewing belt conveyer or screw conveyer. In another embodiment (Figs. 3-60, not shown), four separate towers are provided with individual discharging screw conveyers but have a common charging slewing belt conveyer.
