Abstract
1,039,834. Retractable undercarriages. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS Ltd. Dec. 30, 1964 [Dec. 30, 1963], No. 51158/63. Heading B7G. A retractable undercarriage has one or more leading or trailing links such as 31a pivoted at 32a to the aircraft and connected by a shook absorber 36a and a bracket 43A to an actuating shaft 38 mounted on the aircraft in bearings 41. The links are pivoted to retract the wheels to the positions such as 35 2 a by moving the shaft 38 longitudinally by a jack 39, or by rack and pinion drive, so that the shock absorber 36a takes up the broken line position. The jack may include mechanical locks, and the actuating shaft may be parallel to (as shown) or inclined to the fore-and-aft aircraft axis. In a modification the brackets 43A are arranged to slide in a track on the aircraft, and are moved along the track by a jack acting through links connecting the brackets and forming the actuating shaft. In another embodiment the actuating shaft may be a lead screw and the brackets 43A formed as units movable along the screw when the latter is rotated, e.g. by an electric or fluid pressure operated motor.
