Abstract

1,039,739. Self-venting reservoir bags. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. July 28, 1965 [July 29, 1964], No. 30140/64. Heading A5T. A reservoir bag of the self-venting type, for use in breathing circuits, has the movable element of the vent valve connected to the bag by traction means at points spaced apart around the equatorial zone, whereby, when the bag expands in excess of a predetermined extent in any direction in the equatorial plane, the traction means opens the vent valve. An advantage of such a bag is that the vent valve remains closed when the bag is only partially inflated and manual pressure is being applied about the equatorial zone. A particular embodiment of the invention is illustrated with reference to Fig. 3 which shows a lateral cross section (in the equatorial plane) of the bag in the state of maximum expansion and wherein the valve flaps 14a and 14b are held open by the traction thread 20 and the anchor thread 23.
