Feb. 26, 1916 Generating by direct contact of combustion products.-In apparatus for generating combustion products under pressure, the supply of water or air injected into the products for regulating their temperature is controlled by a thermostat, the variable element of which is formed by the outlet pipe from the combustion chamber. The supply of water injected into the water-jacketed combustion chamber 5 through orifices 22b is controlled by a valve 20 operated by the differential expansion of the brass or iron outlet pipe 14 and a nickel-steel bar 16. The water may be heated in a jacket 7 around an extension of the combustion chamber. The mixture of fuel and air for combustion passes through a chamber 10 containing balls, which decrease in size towards the combustion chamber. The cocks 24, 25 in the fuel and air pipes 9, 12 are automatically and simultaneously controlled by a diaphragm or like device 36 operated by the pressure in the outlet pipe 15 for the combustion products.
