Abstract
5798. Thompson, W. P., [Schweizerische Lokomotiv und Maschinenfabrik]. March 12. Gas-producers.-In an apparatus G for generating gas for use in motors, the air supply is warmed and the steam generated, by the producer gas in its passage to the scrubber S. The steam is generated in an annular casing V to which water is supplied through a tube 21 from a tank W. The air enters a heating-chamber L, and passes along with the steam to a passage 3, the communication between which and a chamber 5 below the grate R is controlled by a valve 4. Air is also introduced by a blower 23. The passage of the gases from the producer through a passage 6 to a chimney 8 or a passage 9, surrounding the conduit 3 and leading to the scrubber, is controlled by a valve U. The supply of water is controlled by a valve 19 connected to a piston or diaphragm 16 operated by the varying pressure in the outlet 14 to the engine. Water is supplied to the tank W by a pipe 20, and overflows through a pipe 22.
