Abstract

Apparatus for preventing formation of scale or lime deposits and for removing such deposits formed in water-conducting metal pipes comprises a pressure-tight housing 2 with a water inlet 4 and a water outlet 6, having at least one magnetizable metal rod 26, 28, e.g. of soft Fe, which passes through a scaled opening in the housing and extends through almost the whole length of the housing transversely to the flow of water and a coil wound on that part 28 of the rod or each rod which is outside the housing which coil is adapted to be connected to a low voltage A.C. current source of from 6 to 24 volts. An elastic sealing gasket 32 surrounding the rod 26, 28 allows the rod 26, 28 to vibrate when A.C. is passed through the coil. The A.C. magnetic field transmitted into the water stream and the vibration of the rod 26, 28 are effective in preventing the formation of or in removing scale or lime deposits already formed. <PICT:1038330/C6-C7/1>
