Abstract

1,038,092. Laminates. WEST VIRGINIA PULP & PAPER CO. Feb. 15, 1963, No. 6320/63. Heading B5N. Fibrous sheet-materials impregnated and/or laminated with a solution of an A-stage resole and alkali lignin in ratios of 10: 1 to 1: 6 are cured at 200-350‹ F., the temperature is reduced below 200‹ F. to terminate curing and the product, which is postformable above 200‹ F., is subjected to mechanical deformation while heated above that temperature. Fibrous materials include paper, cotton and other cellulose fibres, synthetic and other organic fibres, mineral fibres such as glass, rock wool and slag wool, and woven and unwoven fabrics thereof. Resoles include condensation products of formaldehyde, chloral, benzaldehyde and other aldehydes with phenol, cresol, xylenol, p-tert.- butyl phenol, p-phenyl phenol, bisphenol and resorcinol.
