Abstract
1,038,078. Making heat exchangers; brazing. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. July 28, 1964 [Aug. 12, 1963], No. 31741/63. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Division F4] A method of making a heat exchanger, Fig. 2, comprises bending tubes 1 into a sinuous shape having at least three parallel straight portions and locating thereon a plurality of fins 4 having apertures 5, 6, Fig. 5. The fins and tubes are made from aluminium alloy, and the heatexchanger assembled by passing the slightly flattened bends 3 through dumb-bell shaped slots 6, the straight portions passing through circular holes 5. The assembly is supported between end plates 9 and 10 and brazing wire inserted in longitudinal channels formed by slots 7 and 8 in the fins and corresponding holes in the end plates 10. The assembly is then dipped in a molten salt bath where the wire melts and is drawn by capillary action into interstices between the tubes 1 and flange surrounding the apertures, thereby forming a rigid unit.
