Abstract

103,780. Davis, R. H. Aug. 18, 1916. Respirators. - Selfcontained regenerative breathing-apparatus, of the kind comprising a cooling-device in the form of a heat-radiating chamber mounted between the breathing-bag and the inspiratory valve, is provided with means whereby the cooling-chamber is cut off from the breathing-bag during the expiratory period. The invention is shown applied to apparatus of the type described in Specification 17644/10. A combined breathing-bag and carbon-dioxide absorption chamber a is connected to the inspiratory tube i of the face-piece b through a cooling-chamber e. Inspiratory valves g, h are arranged between the cooler e and the breathing-bag a and face-piece b respectively, so that the cooler is isolated during the expiratory period. A cooler d' is arranged between the expiratory-tube c and the gas-bag a. Oxygen from cylinders arranged on the wearer's back is conveyed by the pipe j directly to the cooler e. In modifications, more than one cooler may be arranged between the breathing-bag and the face-piece, and more than two inspiratory valves may be employed.
