July 13, 1965 [Oct. 9, 1964], No. 41411/64. Headings F2G and F2P. In an articulated support between two members 1, 3 which have oppositely disposed plane, annular, supporting faces 9, 11 spaced apart to provide an annular space between the faces, the space contains a plurality of similar, wedgeshaped supporting blocks 12 arranged in a single layer between the faces 9, 11 and extending circumferentially around the space in a row. The layer of blocks comprises two opposing sets of an equal number of blocks, the blocks of each set being interposed between and being in wedging engagement with the blocks of the other set, one set of blocks providing supporting contact uniformly over the face 9 and other set of blocks providing supporting contact uniformly over the face 11. The member 3 consists of a tube 4, to which is joined a resilient tube 18 bearing against a spherical surface of the flanged portion of the tube 1 to form a gas seal, and rings 5, 6, the ring 5 being provided with a thread 7 for screwed connection with a stub pipe in a gas baffle dome of a nuclear reactor.
