Abstract
823,378. Packing elements for liquid-liquid contacting columns. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 2, 1956 [Nov. 3, 1955], No. 31514/55. Class 55 (2). A packing element for a liquid-liquid contacting column comprises a multiplicity of subelements having a closed, continuous rounded surface arranged in a plane, each sub-element being in point contact with and joined to at least two of its neighbouring sub-elements. The sub-elements may be spheres, ellipsoids or egg-shaped. Fig. 1 shows a packing composed of spherical sub-elements based on a hexagonal pattern while Fig. 2 shows similar sub-elements based on a square pattern. The elements may be mouled in one piece from polythene, the subelements being spheres of # inch diameter.
