Abstract

1,114,653. Pipe joints. AUTOCLAVE ENGINEERS Inc. 24 Aug., 1965 [28 Aug., 1964; 13 May, 1965], No. 36370/65. Heading F2G. Hubs 6, 7 welded to pipes 4, 5 having flanges 8 formed with sloping outer surfaces 10 are clamped together by a split clamp 11 provided with inner surfaces 14 corresponding to the surfaces 10, resilient tubular members 17, such as spiral springs, continuous metal tubes, segments of tubes or springs or C-shaped segments positioned side-by-side, being disposed in grooves 16 in the flanges and thrust washers 15 being positioned between the members and the surfaces 14. A seal' ring 21 is compressed between the flanges. In modifications, (a) the members 17 are disposed in grooves in the surfaces 14 of the clamp 11 or in thrust washers seated in recesses in the flanges 8, (b) the members 17 are housed in recesses in the flanges 8 and opposed clamp rings, Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown), (o) the flanges 36, Fig. 8, of the hubs 34, 35 are clamped together by pairs of rings 38, 42 providing recesses 39 for coaxial tubular springs 40, 41, (d) the hubs are connected together by flanges and clamp rings, the latter having recesses for springs 17 lying between and on the pitch circle of the bolts.
