Abstract

1,037,126. Boring earth, &c. L. L. CHAPPUIS March 3, 1964 [March 19, 1963], No. 9026/64. Heading E1F. Boring apparatus comprises a carriage 7 movable on slides 12 by a jack (not shown), a reduction gear 4 driving a non-circular shaft 6, a drill 8 concentric with the shaft and supported by the carriage, and projections 11 on the drill in engagement with the shaft for the transmission of rotary motion. The reduction gear is driven by a reduction gear 3 driven by a motor driven shaft 3a or is driven directly by a motor. The jack is connected to the carriage by chains (not shown). The reduction gear 4 is connected to the slide by resilient members 16, the arrangement being that the torque from excessive drilling resistance causes an arm 17 to operate a valve 18 to cut off supply of fluid to the feed jack. A series of parallel holes may be bored by pivoting the slide about an axis.
