Abstract

1,094,201. Boring earth &c. CEMENTATION CO. Ltd. Sept. 13, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No. 37907/64. Heading E1F. Rotary boring apparatus comprises a frame 36 carrying drive gearing 34, 38, clamping means 40 carried by the gear 34 and adapted to engage and rotate a casing 31, a boring tool 42 having gripping means 45 adapted to engage the casing to permit rotation of the tool by the casing and drive gearing, and power operated ground engaging members 39 adapted to feed the casing and tool into the earth. The gearing is driven by hydraulic motors having circuits arranged to reduce the speed of boring as the torque on the tool increases and vice versa. The circuits may be connected to the pump and hydraulic motor actuating the members 39 so that the rate of feed decreases with increase of torque on the tool. The gripping means grip as soon as the tool which has been lowered through the casing engages the earth, the grip being tightened by rotation of the casing which may carry cutters.
