Abstract

1,036,770. Liquid treating fibrous bands or slivers. PAVENA AG. Dec. 3, 1963 [Dec. 7,1962], No. 47738/63. Heading D1L. Apparatus for continuously liquid treating a band or sliver of staple fire comprises a guide or support for the band or sliver and means for forcing the liquid through the fibres. As shown a flat web 11 coming from a drafting arrangement passes to a guide 10 whereby it is guided into tubular form (see Fig. 4, not shown), a tube 12 carrying the treatment liquid under pressure being arranged to lie in the centre of the tube of fibres. The tubular web passes via a nozzle 14 to a tapering wire spiral 15 between the turns of which liquid may be expelled from the centre of the web. The web next passes between calender rolls 5 having side confirming plates 19 to have excess liquid expelled therefrom and to be smoothed. The expelled liquid may be collected and pumped to the pressure vessel which feeds tube 12. The spiral 15 which is surrounded by a spray guard 16 is preferably coated with an antifriction material. Alternative guides to replace the spiral 15 comprise an internally threaded tube of tapering internal diameter or a stack of discs having progressively smaller holes therein, liquid outlet channels being formed in the surfaces of the discs. In an alternative arrangement the web passed directly from the drafting roller to a wire spiral guide having an oval cross-section at its upper end the largest diameter of the oval tapering so that the cross section becomes circular at the lower end. A hood to which pressurized liquid is led covers one side of this spiral and liquid is thus forced through the fibres contained therein.
