Abstract
Petroleum distillate fuels boiling in the fuel oil range contain 0.00033-0.05% by weight of N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine. The fuel may also contain 3-15% by weight of the cyclohexylamine of an N,N1-di-(orthohydroxyarylidene)-1,2-alkylenediamine in which the arylidene radical contains 6 or 7 carbon atoms and the alkylene radical contains 2 or 3 carbon atoms, e.g. N,N1-disalicylidene-1,2-propylenediamine. The fuel may contain 0.00017-0.01% by weight of an oil-soluble polymeric dispersant selected from (a) a basic amino nitrogen containing addition copolymer which (i) is formed from a plurality of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compounds each of which contains only one polymerizable ethylenic linkage, at least one of which is amine-free and contains 8-18 carbon atoms in an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain which chain is not a part of the main chain when incorporated into the copolymer, and at least one of which contains a basic amino nitrogen which appears in a side chain of the copolymer, (ii) contains 0.1-3.5% weight of basic amino nitrogen and (iii) has an inherent viscosity of 0.1-3.0 as determined at 0.1% weight/volume concentration in benzene at 25 DEG C.; (b) a copolymer of 10-30% of a C8-C18 alkyl chloropropyleneoxy mixed ester of a C4-C5 unsaturated conjugated dibasic acd and 90-70% of a monomer selected from vinyl esters of C1-C4 fatty acids, C8-C20 alkyl maleates, fumarates or mixtures thereof and (c) a copolymer of 5-30% of an N-vinyl pyrrolidinone, 65-95% of at least one acrylic ester and 0-5% of an aminoalkyl acrylate. The additives may be added to the fuel in admixture with an inert liquid hydrocarbon.
