Abstract

A liquid polydiolefin containing at least 50% of centrally located isolated double linkages is epoxidized. These are polymers obtained from 1,3-diolefins in which the monomers are largely or completely linked by 1,4-addition. Specified polymers are 1,4-cis-, 1,4-trans and 1,4-cis-trans - polybutadiene, 1,4 - polydimethylbutadiene, 1,4 - cis - polyisoprene, 1,4 - polychloroprene and 1-4 copolymers of butadiene and isoprene while copolymers of butadiene or isoprene with styrene acrylonitrile and methacrylic acid esters which contain the diene mainly as 1,4-polymer are also included. Any known epoxidizing agent may be used.
