Abstract

1,035,754. Suction cleaners. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. March 19, 1965 [April 3, 1964], No. 11688/65. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A vacuum cleaner comprises an electric motor 12 driving a rotary brush 48 through an endless belt 58 having teeth 60 on the inside surface engaged with driving gear 54 formed on the motor shaft, and driven gear 56. To prevent the belt from becoming disengaged from the gear 54 when the gear 56 is stalled, an arcuate shroud 62 is formed on the end-bell 34 of the motor, the smooth surface of the shroud being normally spaced a small distance from the smooth outer surface of the belt. The stalling torque of the brush is transmitted through the belt and driving gear to overload the motor whereby a circuit breaker disconnects the motor to avoid breakage of the belt and damage to the motor.
