A process for manufacturing sliding clasp fasteners comprises assembling together lengths of stringers, each comprising a stringer tape having fastener members, by interengaging their fastener members, mounting a plurality of sliders on the assembled lengths of stringers at spaced apart intervals depending upon the desired fastener lengths, applying reinforcement strips to the assembled lengths of stringers at spaced apart positions between the sliders depending upon the desired fastener lengths and severing the assembled lengths of stringers in positions so as also to cut the reinforcement strips and form separate sliding clasp fasteners each having a slider, each cut reinforcement strip forming end stops for successively cut separate fasteners. The sliders may either be assembled to the coupled lengths facing in the same direction as shown or alternatively they may face alternately in opposite directions. When the sliders face in the same direction each reinforcement strip or if strips are used on each side of the fastener lengths, the pair of strips, form the bottom stop of one fastener length and the two top stops of the adjacent fastener length, the cut which is made through the reinforcement strip or strips and the coupled lengths being T-shaped to produce these end stops. When the sliders are assembled to the coupled lengths facing in opposite directions alternately, bottom stops for adjacent fastener lengts are formed by cutting through a reinforcement strip on one side of the fastener lengths, the fastener lengths themselves, and if provided a reinforcement strip on the other side of the fastener lengths. The top stops are formed by bonding a strip to each fastener length on one or both sides of the length and cutting through the strips and the lengths simultaneously to provide four top stops. Instead of providing separate reinforcement strips on opposite sides of the lengths single strips can be used passing round both sides of the coupled lengths.
