Abstract

1,073,424. Sliding clasp fasteners. LIGTENING FASTENERS Ltd. March 1, 1966, No. 8895/66. Addition to 948794. Heading E2S. A method of manufacturing sliding clasp fasteners of the concealed element type, comprises, forming two lengths of stringers 15, 15 in which, in each length of stringers, coupling elements 3 are secured to an edge of a length of tape 13 with coupling portions of the elements directed towards the other edge of the tape, locating the lengths of stringers in side-by-side relationship with the coupling elements lying adjacent to one another but not in locking engagement, cutting pairs of recesses 18, 18 in adjacent edges of the stringers to extend over a plurality of elements on each tape, folding the lengths of each tape adjacent the coupling portions of the elements whereby the length of tape not secured to the elements extends away from the coupling portions of the elements, inserting a slider (14), Fig. 5 (not shown) between each pair of recesses and engaging the slider with the coupling elements and securing plastics material and providing end stops upon the lengths of stringers adjacent the recesses either before or after cutting of the recesses or after mounting the sliders on the lengths of stringers. As shown, preformed films 16 of plastics material are fused to the lengths of stringers at intervals corresponding to the lengths of individual fasteners required, and each film is provided with end stops 17. The recesses 18, 18 are formed through the films, the folds in the lengths of stringers are reformed and a slider is inserted between each pair of recesses and engaged with coupling elements at the ends remote from the stops 17. An end stop (not shown) is then provided to the rear of the slider to prevent removal thereof. The lengths of stringers are severed across the recesses intermediate the lengths thereof to produce individual fasteners complete with sliders and end stops.
