Abstract

1,035,698. Valve gear; lubricating. THOMPSON R. WOOLDRIDGE Inc. July 9, 1963, No. 27175/63. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F2] An oil deflection device for an I.C. engine poppet valve comprises a valve spring retainer cap 22, Fig. 1, and an oil shield 35 having a skirt 31 shaped to engage within the cap for securing the oil shield to the cap. The oil shield may be of an acetal resin polymer of a thermo-plastic such as a polyoxymethylene, e.g. "Delrin" (Registered Trade Mark), or a metal pressing. The shield skirt 31 incorporates an annular bead 34 which engages in groove 33. In another embodiment an extension 51, Fig. 3 (not shown), having an outer tapering surface may be retained by a tapering bore 52 of a valve spring retainer cap 19.
