Abstract

1,035,441. Photographic stripping film. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Jan.15, 1963 [Jan. 15,1962], No. 1866/63. Heading G2C. A photographic stripping film comprises (1) a flexible support, (2) a stripping layer, (3) a flexible membrane soluble in organic solvents, (4) a layer comprised wholly or mainly of a hydrophilic colloid which is soluble in water between 30‹ and 40‹C. and is resistant to hardening by the oxidation products of aromatic developers having at least two functional hydroxy groups and (5) a silver halide emulsion layer the binding agent of which predominantly consists of a hydrophilic colloid which is soluble in water between 30‹ and 40‹C. in its unhardened state but is capable of being hardened by the oxidation products. The stripping film is exposed, developed in a turning developer containing catechol and pyrogallol, fixed, washed, dried and transferred to a copper cylinder. The support is then stripped off and the membrane removed with an acetone/alcohol/water solution. The unhardened layer (4) and the unhardened areas of the emulsion are washed off with warm water and the copper etched to produce an etched resist. The unhardenable colloid (4) may be a reaction product of gelatin and bromoacetic acid or p-carboxybenzyl bromide (see Specification 1,005,787) or a reaction product of gelatin and pyromellitic diaphydride or trimellitic anhydride (see Specification 968, 892) or the reaction product of gelatin with O-methylisourea. A gelatin subbing layer may be added between layers (3) and (4). The stripping layer may be be cellulose nitrate or a butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer.
