Abstract

1,034,807. Vehicle wheels. WAR DEPARTMENT SECRETARY OF STATE. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 36792/61. Heading B7C. A wheel comprises a series of tiltable plates or shoes 9, resiliently connected together to form the wheel rim, in which each shoe may tilt when in contact with the ground by sliding movement relative to a resiliently supported guiding member 6. Guiding members or shrouds 6 are connected together by studs 7 and thrust members 8 which in turn bear on bands 5 of wire rope or spring steel supported by resiliently mounted blocks 4 on the hub 1 of the wheel. Each shoe 9 slides on rollers 11, 12 in its concave shroud 6, and shoes are connected together by telescopic links 13 of hydraulic, pneumatic or spring type. Each shoe tilts in its shroud to a greater extent in softer ground to give improved grip. The shoes may be encircled by a further resilient, endless track band.
