Abstract
1,034,367. Sterilizing enclosures. A. THOMAS. July 25,1963 [July, 25,1962], No. 29516/63. Addition to 901, 156. Heading A5G. An apparatus for sterilizing an enclosure e.g. a room as shown in Fig. 1 comprises a supply unit 132 with vaporiser head 134 for a sterilizing gas e.g. ethylene oxide; a source of ozone comprising a supply of oxygen 130 and conductive plates 127 and 128 subject to electrical discharges an an ozone diffuser head 131; a ventilating system for introducing filtered dust free gas into the enclosure and discharging contaminated gas from the enclosure comprising a diffuser 108, compressor 103 and filter 107 connected to an air supply outside the enclosure and a discharge aperture 109 connected through filter 110 and connecting member 112 to the outside of the enclosure; and an ultra-violet ray generator 122. The apparatus as shown in Fig. 1 also comprises an air heater system consisting of heating resistances 117 and a fan 116; and aerosol guns 135 and 136 containing water to humidify the air and hydrogen peroxide to destroy the ozone respectively. An air cooling sheath 142 may be provided around the air heater system. In another embodiment the supply unit for the gases may be separate from the distributor unit and coupled together in use as in Fig, 3 (not shown). The whole apparatus may be automatically controlled.
