A reel-type baking oven, Figs 1, 3 and 4, comprises a casing 5 supporting the horizontal, rotatable axle 8 of the reel on which a plurality of trays 14 are pivotally mounted, to move in outer and inner concentric paths and keep substantially horizontal, during rotation of the reel. The reel comprises, at each end of the axle 8, a circular plate 9 and arms 10, secured to each plate 9 to extend in directions tangential to an imaginary circle within, and concentric with, its periphery. The inner end of each arm 10 abuts an adjacent arm 10. The reel also comprises arms 11, secured to each plate 9 between arms 10. The arms 10 and 11 are connected by struts 12. A shaft 13 is pivotally supported, parallel to the axle 8, at the outer end of each of the arms 10 and 11 and the corresponding arm at the other end of the reel. Another shaft 13 is pivotally supported, nearer to the axle 8, by each pair of arms 10. The trays 14 are secured to the shafts 13, so that a tray is carried along an outer path and another tray is carried along an inner path by each pair of arms 10, and one tray is caried along an outer path by each pair of arms 11. A loading or unloading passage, which can be closed by lowering a door 18, is provided at one end of the casing. The reel is provided with bridge-pieces 25, lying parallel, respectively, to each of the arms 10 and 11. When two trays 14 on an arm 10 are aligned with said passage, the corresponding bridge-piece 25 is aligned with another bridge-piece 26 secured to the casing, so that unbaked or baked products, e.g. in baking pans, can be passed smoothly over the bridge-pieces on to or from the said two trays. When a tray 14 on an arm 11 is aligned with the passage, the corresponding bridge-piece 25 is aligned with the bridge-piece 26, to facilitate loading or unloading of said tray. The reel may be provided, at the end remote from the passage, with innter and outer, eccentrically disposed guide rings 20, 21, and an arm 23, having a pin 24 which engages an aperture in the corresponding guide ring, may be fixed to the corresponding end of each shaft 13, to help in keeping the respective tray or trays horizontal. Heating devices 6 are accommodated in the casing, which is also provided with a vent 7. In a modification, the loading or unloading passage may be in one side of the casing.
