Abstract
Aromatic nitro compounds are hydrogenated in liquid phase to aromatic amines in the presence of a catalyst which comprises 5-20% Ni on a SiO2-MgO support. Specified nitro compounds are nitrobenzene, dinitrobenzenes, p - nitrotoluene, o - nitrotoluene, 2: 4 - dinitrotoluene, 2: 6 - dinitrotoluene, BETA - nitronaphthalene, 1: 5-dinitronaphthalene, and nitrophenols. Typical reduction conditions are 70-120 DEG C. and 10-100 atmospheres.
