Abstract
103,351. West, A. J. Jan. 28, 1916. Making lamps; repairing; residual gases; caps; filaments; supports for.-A cap removable with the filament is provided with a tube, open at its inner end, for the introduction of a gas such as nitrogen, escape of air being provided for. In the construction shown, the cap 6 is provided, below the screw-thread for insertion in a holder, with a shoulder and an enlarged threaded portion screwed on to a sleeve 4, which is cemented on the cylindrical bulb neck. A hole 12 in the shoulder of the cap, serving for the escape of air, is closed by an internal flange on the sleeve 4, when the cap is screwed home A stem 19, having at its upper end a head 20 cemented into the cap, serves also as the tube for admission of gas, which flows out into the bulb through a lateral hole 26. The gas is led into the cap through an insulated nipple 9 in its end. A fiared screw plug normally closes the nipple, with which one end of the filament is connected. At its inner end, the stem is solid and is enlarged to hold radial supports 22 for a filament forming a nearly complete circle in a plane at right-angles to the stem. Specification 4847/78 is referred to.
