Abstract
1,033,200. Overhoist prevention devices for jib cranes. STOTHERT & PITT Ltd. Nov. 2, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963], No. 48173/63. Heading B8B. An over hoist limit device connected to the hydraulically driven hoist barrel of a luffing jib crane is arranged to stop the joist drive when the terminal fittings of the hoist rope reach a predetermined position beneath the jib nose and to start the hoist drive automatically in the lowering direction if the jib is subsequently luffed out. As shown, the hoist drum H drives a rotatable screw shaft 4 which is in engagement with a nut 1 in a guide 5. A lever 9 is connected at one end to a cable 14 which, when moved in the direction X against the action of a spring 17, actuates the hoist control to stop the hoist drive. The lever 9 is pivoted at 8<SP>1</SP> to a block 8 mounted in a guide 7, the position of the block along the guide being determined by the angular position of the jib J. One arm of a bellcrank lever 11 is connected by a link 10 to the block 8 and the other arm is connected by a link 24 to a lever 23 secured to a shaft 21 which extends through a bore in a fixed pin 20 pivotally supporting the jib and which is provided with a lever 22 secured to a bracket 22<SP>1</SP> on the jib. In operation, the hoist drum H rotates in the " hoist " direction until the nut 1 engages a roller 13 on the lever 9 and causes the lever to pull the cable 14 to stop the hoist drive. Subsequent luffing out of the jib causes the block 8 to move to the left causing the lever 9 to pivot about the roller 13, which is in contact with the nut 1, in an anticlockwise direction. This causes the inner member of the cable 14 to be pulled to the right causing the hoist drive to move through the neutral position to a " lower " direction.
