Abstract

Walls.-Relates to weather-proof walls formed of bricks or blocks having overlapping inclined or curved front faces a', the lower edges a<2> forming drip-lips and inverted channels or troughs d. The invention consists in forming a groove a<3>, Fig. 1, near each vertical edge of the face and increasing in depth downwards to prevent water from entering the side joints, and a continuous groove a<4> on all four edges to hold the mortar. The bricks may consist of a concrete body and cement facing, as shown in Fig. 7, and the junction of the body and facing may be vertical; or the bricks may be formed solid from terra-cotta, stone, red, or blue brick, artificial stone, or cement. Corner blocks or quoins are similarly formed with the grooves a', a'. The inner face of the wall may be plastered, or an ordinary brick wall f may be built against it, preferably with an intermediate air space. The headstones and sills are made sufficiently long to aline with the vertical joints in the courses next but one above and below, as shown in Fig 5.
