Abstract

A fixed open-bottomed housing 15, 19 (the Figure not shown), located above the upper run of an endless filter band 10 has telescoped into it a slidable annulus 16. In use, the annulus is moved downwards by piston and cylinder devices 24, 25, into p scaling engagement with the band to form a closed chamber 20 into which material to be treated (e.g. a slurry from which pigment or dyestuff is to be recovered is admitted at 21. Inlet 21 is then closed, and air is admitted under pressure at 22 to the same chamber to compress the material and force its liquid content through the band and out at 14. Thereafter the annulus 16 is raised, the band is moved on by a motor 13, and residue is removed from the band by a scraper 26 and water sprays 27; brushes may also be provided.
