Abstract

1,194,676. Filtering press. G. & J. WEIR Ltd. 39 Sept., 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29093/66. Heading B1D. A filtering press for fruit pulp comprises a cylindrical housing 1, lined by an inflatable tube 3, and respective cloth filtering tubes 9, 10 of which tube 9 lines tube 3 and tube 10 covers a core 2. Pulp enters the space between tubes 9, 10 through inlet 8, then tube 3 is inflated through opening 18 and filtrate passes through the walls of tubes 9, 10, into grooves formed on tube 3 and grooves or perforations in core 2, being discharged respectively from outlets 15, 14. The tube 3 is deflated through outlet 19 and hydraulic jacks 23 are extended to lower core 2 out of fixed cylinder 1, scraper 25 then removing cake from tube 9 as the core descends. Before the core is raised, scraper brush 26 is advanced radially inwards so as to engage tube 10 to remove cake therefrom when the core 2 is raised. A lower jack 27 urges core 2 upwards forcing plate 20 thereon to sealingly engage plate 7 in the closed position. In a simpler version (Fig. 3, not shown) a cloth filtering bag (41) is draped in re-entrant fashion over fixed core (32), and cake is removed from the bag by lifting it manually from the housing (31) after tube (33) has been deflated. In either embodiment the inflatable tube could be replaced by a bag.
