Abstract

1,032,065. Spray-producers. E. M. GREEN. April 25, 1963 [May 31, 1962], No. 16405/63. Heading B2F. A spray head of the push-button type for an aerosol sprayer comprises a body moulding 50 having an integrally formed valve actuating slidable depending hollow tubular member 38, an axially located feed conduit 44, a cavity 54 and a combined post and mandrel 60, 62 also formed integrally with the body and disposed coaxially in the cavity 54 to form a regular annular space therewith. The cavity also incorporates a beading 70 for engagement with an annular groove formed on the external cylindrical wall 68 of a cup-shaped inset 64. The latter incorporates a nozzle orifice 74, a cylindrical chamber 78 and a square shaped chamber 76 connected by tangentially arranged channels 79, 80, 82 and 84 formed in the base wall 66 of the insert with respective passages 110, 111, 112 and 113 which are formed between the conduit 44 and the channels when the insert is fixed in the cavity 54. As shown in Fig. 7 the internal surface of the insert wall 68 is of square cross-section and so dimensioned that the post 60 forms the said passages 110, 111, 112, and 113 which communicate with the conduit through two ports 56 and 58. The mandrel 62 protrudes through the chamber 76 and partly into the chamber 78 to form an annular opening between the two passages. Through the disposition of the channels 79, 80, 82 and 84 and the location of the mandrel 62, the chamber 76 imparts a swirling motion to the pressurised mixture passing therein from the container 14 whenever the spray head is depressed, such depression causing downward or valve opening actuation of a spring-loaded valve member 13 by the depending tubular member 38. This swirling motion is smoothed down in the adjoining chamber 78 which is cylindrical and leads to the nozzle orifice 74. In a modification the depending member 38 is eliminated, the spray head being fitted, when required, to valve mechanism through the interconnection of a recess formed in the underside of the body moulding and a tube upstanding from this valve.
