1,031,731. Hydrostatic transmissions. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. Jan. 8, 1963 [Jan. 26, 1962; Oct. 11, 1962], No. 891/63. Heading F2C. [Also in Division F1] In a hydrostatic transmission comprising a swash-plate pump and motor, the pump and motor valve plates 19, 71 are arranged back-toback. The areas of the back surfaces of the valve plates exposed to inlet and delivery pressure are dimensioned to provide specified force distributions between the valve plates, cylinder blocks and the support frame. Valve plate 19 is biased towards block 3 by sprngs 79 and held against rotation by a pin 78 permitting slight axial or tilting movement. Lubrication and hydraulic balancing of the valve plate face is effected by arcuate grooves 34, 35 (Fig. 4, not shown), connected to high pressure port 31, and grooves 36, 37 connected to low pressure port 32, the connections incorporating filters and capillary ducts which reduce the pressure by approximately half. A leakage-collecting recess 39 and groove 38 drain to the valve plate periphery. The cylinders may be parallel or inclined to the axis.
