Abstract

Refined pyrethrum extract is obtained by carrying out a liquid/liquid extraction of a solution of pyrethrins in a C1- 3 alkanol containing between 5 and 40% by weight of water with a hydrocarbon solvent. The solution of pyrethrins used as a starting material may be obtained by extracting crude pyrethrum extract or oleoresin with a C1- 3 alkanol containing between 5 and 40% by weight of water. The invention includes a modification of Specification 941,395 in which dried pyrethrum flowers are extracted with a C1- 3 alkanol solvent containing less than 5% by weight of water, the water content is adjusted to between 5 and 40% by weight and liquid/liquid extraction effected with a hydrocarbon solvent.
