Abstract
Articles of glass having a molar content of Li2O and/or Na2O of at least 5% are strengthened by bringing them into contact, at a temperature at least 75 DEG C. lower than the annealing temperature, with a salt or a mixture of salts containing silver ions, e.g. AgNO3, or a mixture of 20 mol. per cent AgNO3 and 80 mol. per cent KNO3. The resultant surface layer may be tinted for light yellow-amber-reddish yellow. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 966,731.
