Abstract

1,031,166. Electric light fittings. COURTNEY, POPE (ELECTRICAL) Ltd. July 24, 1962 [July 24, 1961], No. 26795/61. Heading F4R. [Also in Division E2] The fitting comprises a lamp box having normal side members carrying a plurality of spring-loaded fasteners and a diffusing member having side members formed with corresponding projections so that it may be secured to the lamp box by movement in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the box. The box 1 carries brackets 7 carrying extensions projecting at right angles and drilled to receive the ends of a coil spring 11 on a sleeve 12. The sleeve houses the straight part of a wire clip 13 projecting through a slot in the bracket 7. When the diffusing member 3 is slid into place, ribs 6 on the member move the corresponding clips 13 to one side, the springs 11 returning the clips to secure the member 3 in place. The lamp box may be secured to, or in a recess in, the ceiling. In a modification, the ribs 6 may be outwardly directed or may be replaced by holes, the clips 13 engaging in the indentations on the inside of the diffuser or in the holes. One or more diffusing members may be used side by side in a lamp box and where a single one is used it may be provided with a cord for temporary suspension when removed. When the fitting is used for several discharge lamps, it may be provided with a corrugated reflector or a series of V-shaped reflectors, the lamp control gear being housed in the channels between the lamps.
